Safeguarding and Child Protection take the highest priority in school. All staff and volunteers are trained regularly in the school's procedures and practices. This covers all aspects of pupil safety and well-being including child protection, medical conditions, use of social media, confidentiality, health & safety and our staff and visitor code of conduct. Every member of staff participates in an annual refresher training session and the lead teachers update their training every two years.
We feel that safeguarding is everyone's business and we encourage staff, visitors, volunteers and governors to avail themselves of the school's approach and actively support the school in ensuring that the children are safe. A copy of our policy is available through this website and a hard copy can be found in the entrance to the school. Please feel free to come and have a look through it.
The Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mr Ian Robson

If you have a safeguarding concern you should contact one of the staff named above. Alternatively, if you have a concern about a child outside of school hours you could contact Derbyshire's Safeguarding Team, referred to as 'Starting Point' on 01629 533190
The children participate in assemblies and workshops delivered by the NSPCC. These opportunities highlight the importance of personal safety and the risks associated with on line bullying. These lessons are supported and extended through our PSHE curriculum and children in year 5 participate in DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) as a means of educating them in how to deal with peer pressure and the risks associated with substance misuse.
The governing body takes an active role in reviewing our procedures and asking challenging questions about our work to promote pupil safety and well-being. The governing body is involved in our annual safeguarding review and in monitoring the effectiveness of our safeguarding practices to both scrutinise procedures and ensure that the school complies with good practice guidance.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any queries relating to our approach to safeguarding. We would be happy to discuss our policies with you and we are always looking for ways to improve what we do.
