Why do we like to be beside the seaside?
This term we will be looking at why we like to be beside the seaside. As part of this we will be looking at where we have been on holiday and why we like to go there. We will also be looking at maps of the United Kingdom and the rest of the world. We will also be learning about Grace Darling and what she did to make her famous.
As part of our learning we will be visiting Gibralter Point in Skegness to experience the animals we can find at the seaside, as well as enjoying time finding things on the beach, all through stories.
This term we will be linking our writing to our theme. We will be looking at stories such as'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' and creating our own seaside stories. We will also be looking at writing letters and postcards from our holidays.
We will continue to improve how we write our sentences, through using Rainbow Grammar to
make them more exciting. Also through spelling our Year 1 common exception words correctly.
Every child will continue to read daily during our Read Write Inc sessions, as well as further
develop their phonological knowledge and understanding.
This term we will be developing our understanding of place value, looking at the value of tens and ones. We will continue to count in 2's, 5's and 10's and look at early multiplication through arrays. Each week we will continue to use our number bonds to 10 and 20.
Please continue to support your child with their homework, it is much appreciated.
Rights Respecting Schools
The children will be looking at what makes a good Rights Respecting Schools classroom. They will be creating a class charter, telling everyone what is expected in our learning environment.
